13 Nights of Terror

13 Nights of Terror is the newest Halloween Haunt in Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley.

The event is part of Golftoberfest, a 3-week-long fundraiser to benefit the 501(c)3 nonprofit Gull Wings Children’s Museum.

Gull Wings has been known in the community for its innovative educational programs and environment for children from 0-12. As Gull Wings approaches it’s 25th Anniversary in 2012, we are beginning to “branch out” a little as we grow and change to meet the needs of the region for the 21st Century.

Halloween has traditionally been a time in America for families to have fun together. More and more adults are getting into the spirit of the holiday and enjoying a renaissance of fun, creativity, and imagination surrounding the holiday. As we looked for opportunities to provide a fundraiser that also fit our mission, we found ourselves developing a regional Halloween event with activities and experiences suitable for the entire family: a golf tournament, an “old time” Halloween Family Festival, a Family Safety Fair, and a honest-to-goodness scary Haunted House.

This Haunted House, we can safely say, is not suited for children under 13. In fact, we would not recommend it. Please consider this a fair warning: Children under 13 are not permitted without a paid adult accompanying them throughout the attraction.

However, we do recognize that families with younger children may also want to enjoy the Haunted House. On Saturday, October 30th from Noon to 5pm, the 13 Nights of Terror will be converted into a “lights on” haunted house suitable for families with younger children. (Parents should still use discretion and accompany their children.) During the evening hours, however, this is a scary place to be. Just like all good haunted houses.

We do want to point out that, while this is a very scary house; it is not an offensive one and is suitable for those wishing to experience a real fright without having their values challenged in the process.

You see, it all started so many years ago when a old farm house deep in the hills of Simi Valley was rumored to be taken over by some odd, unknown, sinister force and claimed everything in this once peaceful home. To this day, no one has made it out to tell the tale of what really happened back in the day…. You be the judge and try and find out what actually goes on inside…. See if you and your friends can make it out of the most talked about feared legends, The Lost Canyons Sinister Shack!

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – A special event to experience fine wines and the remarkably restored, The Vineyards, in Simi Valley, while simultaneously raising needed funds for the Free Clinic of Simi Valley, is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 14.

The “Taste of Vine” celebration of sunset views, wine, gourmet food pairings and jewelry and art vendors is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 14 at The Vineyards, 2525 Stow Street in east Simi Valley.

“This is an opportunity to see a wonderful, recently renovated venue at a premiere hilltop location in Simi Valley, and taste some of the nation’s finest wines with excellent food pairings in a sunset setting,” said Samantha Evans of TruLuxe Event Planning. “And we will be raising much-needed funds for the Free Clinic of Simi Valley in the process.”

A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to the nonprofit Free Clinic, which provides medical care, counseling, dental and legal assistance to Simi Valley individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay.

Taste of Vine will feature wine tastings with professional food pairings; meal demonstrations; jewelry vendors; and art presentations. Vendors are selected for hands-on attention with guests, the schedule is arranged so participants can enjoy every offering if so desired, and there will be plenty of samples, Evans said.

The event will present residents from Simi Valley and the surrounding region a look at significant improvements to The Vineyards, a prominent restaurant atop a hill overlooking east Simi Valley with spectacular views next to waterfalls and glass terraces.

The mission of the Free Clinic of Simi Valley is to provide medical care, counseling, dental and legal assistance to individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay. This includes those of all ages, ethnicities, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds, who are unable to use traditional sources within the community.

Medical Program

The Free Clinic of Simi Valley's Medical Program addresses the health problems facing uninsured or underinsured individuals and families in the community. Volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and physician assistants provide direct diagnosis, treatment, and education for a wide variety of health problems. Services offered are identical to those of a private doctors office, and are made on an appointment basis. Please call 522-3733 after 5 PM Monday through Friday to make an appointment. All lab work is performed at local laboratories and medications are often provided for patients at no charge.

Dental Program

The Free Clinic has recently begun providing dental services at our Dental Clinic. Services include x-ray, cleaning, fillings and extractions. Please call the clinic for further information.
We also provide fluoride treatments to children aged 0 to six years old. To get an appointment, please call 522.3733 after 5 pm any weeknight.

Counseling Program

The purpose of the Free Clinic's counseling program is to provide service to individuals and families who lack insurance, financial means, or a desire to seek therapy elsewhere. Marriage and Family Therapist trainees provide counseling under the supervision of a licensed MFT. The program is governed under the regulations of the Board of Behavioral Science. Individuals and families spend one hour per week in a private confidential setting receiving careful guidance and caring support from trained counselors, who are skilled in helping clients deal with stress, depression, and communication-related problems. The average course of therapy ranges from six weeks to six months. Appointments are available at various times throughout the week. Please call the clinic between 5 and 8PM for more information or to make appointments.
